Pelvic Girdle Pain during pregnancy.

Your Osteopath may be able to help with many of the aches and pains that come with pregnancy  including  pelvic girdle pain to make your journey to birth more comfortable.

Common issues experienced throughout pregnancy include lower back pain, pelvis pain and /or instability.

Pregnancy can alter the biomechanics of your spine and as your baby grows your centre of gravity moves further forward.  This forces you to lean back to maintain balance, putting a great amount of compressive force though the spine.  This can cause stiffness, discomfort and pain in the lower back.

Osteopathy can help to ease tight muscles and improve the movement in joints.

Pelvic Girdle Pain

Pelvic girdle pain (PGP) results in pain and tenderness in the pubic bone and the front of your pelvis.

You may have difficulty walking (a ‘waddle’ or ‘shuffle’), rolling over in bed or getting dressed.  There may even be an audible clicking sound coming from the pelvis.

PGP can develop slowly during pregnancy, gradually gaining in severity as the pregnancy progresses.

Symptoms include shooting pains into the buttocks or down the back of the legs, hip pain, legs may feel weak and you may not be able to lift your legs when lying down.

Our experienced Osteopaths can help identify PGP and help you manage the symptoms.

We will assess your body looking for areas of strain and discomfort and how your body is coping with the changes of pregnancy.
